[CLOSED] Health Data Research Associate Job Posting

The World Data System (WDS), an affiliate member of the International Science Council, serves a membership of trusted data repositories and related organizations. Governed by a Scientific Committee, the WDS consists of an International Program Office (WDS-IPO) based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA, and an International Technology Office (WDS-ITO) based in Victoria, BC, Canada. The WDS mission is to enhance the capabilities, impact, and sustainability of our member data repositories and data services. The ITO supports the contribution of WDS members to the global research data infrastructure and coordinates the development and integration of components of global research data infrastructure with other operational entities that are invested in research data management. The WDS-ITO is hosted by Ocean Networks Canada (ONC), a world-leading organization supporting ocean discovery and technological innovation. ONC is also a member of the WDS.

Making high quality data discoverable and available is a vital goal of the World Data System. This position will engage with WDS members and other partners of the health data management community to make high quality data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR).

The successful candidate will be working on projects with stakeholders within the international data community to progress best practices and standards. As part of these projects, the successful candidate will:

  • Conduct scoping reviews of the health data landscape, in Canada and internationally;
  • Become familiarized with existing trends and the status of health data standards, practices and technologies;
  • Identify and pursue advances for health data to meet FAIR, CARE and TRUST Principles.
  • Participate in relevant health discipline working groups, such as in the Research Data Alliance (e.g., Health Data Commons GORC Profile, Building Immune Digital Twins);
  • Build relationships with health data experts (e.g., research data management librarians), repositories/libraries, institutes and funders (e.g., CIHR, NIH, Global Biodata Coalition) to increase representation of this discipline in the World Data System;
  • Determine ways to advance data frameworks for interdisciplinary health research (e.g., social and environmental determinants of health), to increase health data re-use in knowledge synthesis activities, and to improve upon data citations by health/medical researchers and journals;
  • Perform bibliographic analysis pertaining to data citations, usage and relationships;
  • Attend and present at health data events such as webinars, workshops and conferences;
  • Contribute to reports and funding proposals.

Job Requirements: This position requires a graduate degree in Health/Medical fields, Information Science, Data Science, Library Science, Computer Science, or related fields plus minimum 3 years of work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Work Location: Meetings and virtual events with international stakeholders may occur outside of normal
business hours, so some flexibility of schedule is required. The position is anticipated to be
fulfilled remotely from a location within Canada, although a desk at the office can be
arranged if the successful candidate resides in the vicinity of Victoria, BC. Must reside in Canada to receive benefits. Must have a Canadian work permit.

This is an 8-month term appointment, which may be renewed subject to performance and funding.
