About

The World Data System (WDS), an affiliate member of the International Science Council (ISC; formerly ICSU), serves a membership of trusted data repositories and related organizations. The WDS was established by the ISC to promote long-term stewardship of, and universal and equitable access to, quality-assured scientific data and data services, products, and information across a range of disciplines in the natural and social sciences, and the humanities. The WDS is comprised of two offices: The International Technology Office (ITO), based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and the International Programme Office (IPO) based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States of America, hosted by the University of Tennessee Oak Ridge Innovation Institute.

The ITO was formed in late 2018 with the mission to build trustworthy and enduring global research data infrastructure for the public good. You can read more about our work on the What We Do page.
