WDS-ITO Student Travel Support Fund

The World Data System International Technology Office, hosted by Ocean Networks Canada at the University of Victoria supports student participation at national and international symposia related to data management, research software and research infrastructure. The WDS-ITO, in celebration of the recently announced regional partnership between the Research Data Alliance (RDA) and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada (the Alliance), is pleased to announce a travel fund for students enrolled in Canadian universities or colleges to attend the RDA 20th Plenary Meeting to be held 21-23 March 2023 in Gothenburg, Sweden.  With generous funding from The Alliance, and depending on demand, awards of up to $5,000 are available.

Students (undergraduate, graduate or post-doctoral) who are currently enrolled in Canadian institutions (university or college) should apply by submitting a proposal via the form below. The application statement can be up to 300 words and should describe why you want to attend the plenary, and what you see as the biggest challenge researchers face when using and accessing data. WDS-IPO and WDS-ITO staff and co-ops are not eligible for this travel fund.

Deadline for applications is 11:59pm, Pacific Standard Time (GMT-8) on 05 February 2023. We will inform successful applicants by 17 February 2023. Requests for reimbursement of expenses can be submitted after the meeting. However, expenses that the participants wish to submit for reimbursement must be incurred on or before 31 March 2023. Applicable charges will follow the University of Victoria Travel and Business Expense Policy and can include: transportation, meals, conference registration fees and hotel accommodation. Legal requirements for travel such as applicable visas or vaccines are the responsibility of the applicant. Students with a desire for a career in research data management, scientific application development, or research infrastructures in the international context are encouraged to apply for consideration of an award.

Questions about the award or process can be submitted to ito-webadmin@oceannetworks.ca.

Applications are now closed.
