{"id":3368,"date":"2023-11-17T22:30:55","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T22:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wds-ito.org\/Staging_001\/?p=3368"},"modified":"2024-01-18T19:26:15","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T19:26:15","slug":"idw2023-retrospective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wds-ito.org\/Staging_001\/idw2023-retrospective\/","title":{"rendered":"International Data Week Retrospective"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Having taken some time to reflect on and recuperate from International Data Week 2023 (<a href=\"https:\/\/internationaldataweek.org\/idw2023\/\">IDW2023<\/a>), we\u2019re excited to embark on new projects, start new collaborations, and dive into deliverables addressing the needs of the World Data System (<a href=\"http:\/\/worlddatasystem.org\/\">WDS<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/worlddatasystem.org\/members\/member_directory\/\">members<\/a> and the wider research community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tone for IDW2023 was set for us during the <a href=\"https:\/\/worlddatasystem.org\/world-data-system-members-forum-2023\/\">WDS Members Forum<\/a>, which took place the day before the official start of the Festival of Data. The forum showcased incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/worlddatasystem.us14.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=ee2725538304dbbc4491f5f92&amp;id=eea8fe965e&amp;e=c41da262cb\">lightning talks from WDS members<\/a> and illustrated some key areas of success and concern among repositories. Especially regarding sustainability of repositories, we anticipate that having globally vetted and curated value propositions to pull from during proposal and grant writing will assist in repositories securing more and longer term support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As IDW2023 started and progressed, we heard and participated in discussions that often came back to these same areas of concern. In particular, common themes we gathered from IDW2023 were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:35%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"414\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/wds-ito.org\/Staging_001\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IDW2023-logo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wds-ito.org\/Staging_001\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IDW2023-logo.png 414w, https:\/\/wds-ito.org\/Staging_001\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IDW2023-logo-300x272.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:60%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identifying, defining, and distinguishing between data quality, integrity, and reliability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Addressing hurdles and barriers to certification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changing the research assessment and evaluation procedures to be more holistic and recognize data management and stewardship roles and responsibilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial sustainability and funding for Research Data Alliance (RDA) groups, data management and stewardship activities and roles, and research infrastructure in general<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and usage of AI, including preparing data and research infrastructure for AI use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With clear overlap between what the international research community and the WDS members need, we are currently identifying new projects and avenues of work for the WDS International Technology Office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you miss sessions from IDW2023?
